Who should audition?
Any student musician who has had at least one year of experience on
an orchestral instrument is welcome to audition for the Bremerton
Symphony Youth Orchestra. Woodwind and brass players younger than the
7th grade should have at least two years of experience on their
instrument. Auditions are heard by members of the BSA artistic staff.
All qualified students will be offered placement in the orchestra, based
on skill and experience as demonstrated in the audition.
What will I play at my audition?
Each audition lasts about ten minutes and includes:
1. A Prepared Solo of Your Choice
Your choice of music with two contrasting tempos, without accompaniment.
Please bring an extra copy of your music for the Audition Committee.
2. Scales
Prepare two scales (major and minor, two octaves) that represent your
current level of playing.
3. Sight Reading
Be prepared to sight read selections presented to you at the time of the
audition.
Please do not hesitate to call with any questions about the audition
process.
What else do I need to know?
Just about everybody gets nervous in auditions, but try to relax and
have fun. Our goals are to get to know you and your playing and to find
a place in our programs for you to learn and succeed in music. The BSYO
would like to place all students who seek to participate.
Just be yourself and make music!
